Chapter 724 - 159: What a Coincidence! (First Update)
Mu Qingge didn’t know how good the quality of the Teleportation Array Ying Ze had brought was. In any case, as soon as she crushed it, she felt the world spinning around her. When she felt her feet solidly on the ground again, before she could see the scene in front of her, intense sounds of fighting reached her ears.
"It seems there’s a fight going on over there!" Ji Yaohua’s voice sounded.
Mu Qingge focused her eyes and noticed two tall figures not far from her. Between them lay layers of fog that blurred her vision and hid much of the Ancient Battlefield’s scenery.
"Qingge? Ying Ze!" Ji Yaohua’s voice echoed again, seemingly unable to see the two figures, so he called out.
"I’m here," Mu Qingge opened her mouth to say.
"I’m here," Ying Ze also responded right after.
The voices came from Ji Yaohua’s left and right, not far apart, which eased his heart. He stood still and said to the two, "The fog here is so thick, I can’t see you. I’ll stand here without moving and keep talking, you two get closer to me. And, I hear fighting sounds, so let’s be careful."
Both Mu Qingge and Ying Ze agreed with his method and continuously moved closer to him. Mu Qingge’s sensory perception was stronger than the average person, so she could make out their figures despite the dense fog.
In no time, the three regrouped.
Seeing the two clearly, Ji Yaohua relaxed, with lingering fear, he said, "The Divine Demon Ancient Battlefield truly lives up to its reputation, giving us a startling entrance. Now, where are we, and what’s with the fighting sounds ahead? Could there be others who’ve entered the Ancient Battlefield too?"
His questions were plenty, yet they were the common queries in the hearts of all three.
The Teleportation Talisman was brought by Ying Ze, so he spoke, "This should be the edge of the Ancient Battlefield, the area linked to the entrance. As for the fighting sounds..." He paused, seemingly unable to answer that question.
Mu Qingge thought for a moment and said, "I’ve heard that the rift of the Divine Demon Ancient Battlefield exists not only in the Middle Ancient Realm. Perhaps those fighting sounds come from Experiential Trainees of other realms, or maybe from others in Middle Ancient Realm who share our thoughts."
Upon hearing this, Ji Yaohua’s eyes brightened. He rubbed his palms together and laughed, "I’ve heard of this rumor too. If it indeed is people from other realms in here, I’d love to challenge them! See whether we’re stronger or they are."
"Don’t be so hasty, if the opponent’s realm is higher than ours, encountering them might be a dead end," Ying Ze unceremoniously interrupted.
Ji Yaohua instantly pulled a long face, "Ying Ze, you’ve changed! How can you become so fearful of death."
Ying Ze, however, calmly said, "It’s not fear of death, but rather not wanting to seek death needlessly."
"Enough, stop with the useless talk. Entering the Ancient Battlefield, we must stay exceptionally vigilant." Mu Qingge interrupted the meaningless chatter between the two.
Ji Yaohua and Ying Ze restrained their emotions, a faint layer of seriousness showing between their brows.
The fighting sounds continued to echo in their ears, sounding more like a one-on-one fight than chaos.
Ji Yaohua furrowed his brows and asked, "Should we go over there?"
Ying Ze did not speak but looked toward Mu Qingge.
Mu Qingge thought for a while and decided, "The fog here blocks our vision everywhere, and we are unsure what the situation really is. Since there are fighting sounds ahead, let’s follow them and maybe we’ll discover something."
"Mhm."
"Mhm,"
Both nodded in agreement.
The three gathered together and slowly moved toward the direction of the fighting sounds.
The sounds seemed close, yet in the search within the fog, they were still distant.
"It’s really cold here, do you feel it?" Ji Yaohua asked the two beside him while rubbing his arms.
Cold?
With the Abnormal Fire within Mu Qingge, she didn’t feel the cold.
However, Ying Ze beside her let out a small "Mhm."
"It seems to be these fog barriers," Ji Yaohua deduced the cause of the cold.
Mu Qingge’s eyes darkened lightly, "Regardless, we must quickly get out of this fog barrier."
The three hastened their pace, quickly moving toward where the fighting sounds originated.
Gradually, the sounds seemed closer and the fog barriers in front of them began to thin.
"I can see you now!" Ji Yaohua exclaimed with delight.
Ying Ze turned his eyes toward him, glanced briefly, then calmly withdrew his gaze.
Compared to the two newly able to see, Mu Qingge could see more clearly. Around them, the fog barriers they passed through offered glimpses of the Ancient Battlefield’s outlines.
"It seems the fighting is coming from over there," Mu Qingge pointed toward the fog-covered area ahead, speaking to the two.
At this moment, a gust of wind blew past, scattering the light fog ahead of them, allowing them to see the ground clearly.
"What the hell!" Ji Yaohua suddenly jumped up, staring wide-eyed at the ground.
His reaction made Mu Qingge and Ying Ze also look down at the ground. When they saw clearly what the ground was, both their pupils shrank simultaneously.
The ground they thought was flat turned out to be the body of some fierce beast... no, to be precise, it should be a corpse. This corpse, who knows how many years it has been dead, its skin has hardened, without elasticity, but the ferocious scars on it are still clearly visible.
Before it died, it must have experienced deep despair, its open mouth seemed to be letting out a mournful cry.
Here, there was not just one beast’s corpse. Following the path of the wind, the three looked up and discovered that piled densely together here were all the corpses of the Beast Clan. They squeezed and deformed each other, through tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, even millions of years, forming the edge of the Ancient Battlefield.
The wind dissipated. Those dispersed fog barriers once again gathered, hiding those beast corpses.
Ji Yaohua murmured, "Just seeing these Beast Clan corpses, one can imagine how fierce the battle was back then."
"Let’s keep going." Mu Qingge collected her thoughts and nodded forward.
Ji Yaohua walked while saying, "It was fine when I couldn’t see clearly before, but now knowing what I’m stepping on makes me feel uneasy and terrified."
"Just consider them as the ground," Mu Qingge said lightly.
Ji Yaohua pulled a smile uglier than crying at his mouth’s corner, "Qingge, are you sure this is comforting?"
Mu Qingge turned his eyes toward him, speaking with utmost sincerity, "I’m not comforting you."
"..." Ji Yaohua was speechless.
After walking a while more, the fog barriers became slightly thinner.
The sounds of fighting were already close, and they could even see two figures continuously moving.
Those two figures, one slender and graceful, the other tall and brawny, seemed to be a man and a woman in fierce combat.
Mu Qingge, Ji Yaohua, and Ying Ze exchanged glances, then all simultaneously quickened their pace, rushing out of the fog barrier.
Finally, they emerged from the fog and saw the iron-black stones in the distance, a wasteland scene, the gray sky, and beneath their feet the ground paved by countless beasts.
On this ground, two people were intensely fighting, the scene was incredibly vivid and striking.
The sound of metal continuously clashing, while the sword hilt extending from the woman’s hand emitted a strong wave that wrapped the man in the water current, seemingly trying to subdue him.
However, that man was no simple figure. Trapped in the giant whirlpool, he let out a furious roar, his fists covered in golden light continually striking those water waves. Around him, countless fist shadows formed, causing splashes everywhere.
The three who entered even saw those fist shadows struggling within the water waves.
’It’s her!’ Mu Qingge’s pupils suddenly shrank, immediately recognizing the woman fighting against the man.
She identified her by the sword and the moves.
"Is that... Xi Goddess?" Ji Yaohua exclaimed in shock, recognizing her by her exquisite figure and distinct aura.
"No way it’s such a coincidence!" Ji Yaohua blurted out.
Mu Qingge had the same thought in her mind.
Suddenly, the water currents trapping the man explosively shattered, and Xi Qianxue suffered a backlash, spitting out a mouthful of blood, her body flying backward. Bereft of Spiritual Power support, those imposing waves instantly vanished, reverting to the crystal-clear sword, merging with its hilt.
Xi Qianxue fell heavily to the ground, unable to stop herself from spitting out another mouthful of blood upon contact, looking pale as she gazed at the man standing in the air.
The man had disheveled hair, ragged clothes, his whole body dirtied, his appearance unclear. Only from his aura could one sense his might. The Spiritual Power surrounding him was extremely violent, akin to a barrel of explosives, ready to explode at any moment.
Xi Qianxue stared at him, her expression heavy, with a faint hint of despair hidden within. Her sword, meanwhile, lay beside her, its luster dimmed slightly.
"Ah—!" Suddenly, the man standing in the air shouted aloud, the sound ear-piercing, shaking everyone’s soul.
Xi Qianxue clasped her hands tightly over her ears, her face growing paler, with fresh blood continuously leaking from between her tightly pursed lips.
And the three standing aside, observing the battle from afar, all frowned, their internal Spiritual Power stirred by the man’s roar.
The two battling individuals hadn’t noticed the sudden appearance of these three.
Perhaps, the three stood at the edge of the fog barrier, shrouded by mist, making them less conspicuous.
The man finally ceased his roar, his sharp eyes gazing through his disheveled hair at Xi Qianxue. Instantly, he rushed down from mid-air, extending his fierce fingers, intending to capture her.
The man’s sudden approach made Xi Qianxue’s expression panic.
Her eyes suddenly widened, and she grabbed the sword beside her, holding it horizontally in front of herself, attempting to block him.
However, the man seemed unfazed.
The fierce claws struck the sword’s body, lifting her entire form, flinging her towards the direction where Mu Qingge and the others stood. In Xi Qianxue’s view, a familiar red streak passed by...
